PUYALLUP, WASHINGTON
Senior Estimator
Absher Construction Co. a respected GC in the Puget Sound area has an opening for an experienced Senior Estimator with at least 10-15 years experience (northwest preferred) with Bid/Build, Design/Build and GC/CM contract formats. This person should be able to lead preconstruction efforts directly with the client. As we are a self-performed contractor with respect to concrete and wood framing, good understanding of pricing self-performed work is required. Familiarity with Timberline Estimating Software and On-Screen take-off is preferred. A college degree in a construction industry field is required (Construction Management preferred), and additional certifications such as DBIA and LEED AP would be ideal.
Railroad Track Construction Superintendent
Currently seeking a Railroad Track Construction Superintendent with specific experience on track construction of railroad projects for a Class 1 Freight or Commuter Railroad. This is a temporary position that may lead to a full time employment opportunity.
Responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of the Track Foreman and related work crew, and assist in managing and coordinating the overall aspects of the track, station, grade crossing, and bridge construction. They will manage and directly oversee the safety, condition, and quality of track that has been constructed and continues to be maintained and shall direct corrective and maintenance measures to keep the track operating safely.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualified candidate must have the following:
- A minimum of 10 years railroad track construction experience including a minimum of one project within the last 5 years of value over $20 million.
- A minimum of 3 years experience as a Roadmaster or equivalent position for a Class 1 Freight or Commuter Railroad
- Demonstrated knowledge of FRA safety standards, associated Washington State compliance standards, Sound Transit standards and Tacoma Rail Rules
- Proven leadership qualities including experience in supervising and planning work activities of Track Foremen and crews
- Ability to read and understand track and signal construction plans
- Ability to identify FRA or other defects in tracks and able to prescribe remedial measures
Railroad Construction Project Manager -
Currently seeking a Railroad Construction Project Manager with specific experience on engineering, construction, and maintenance of railroad projects for a Class 1 Freight or Commuter Railroad. This is a temporary position that may lead to a full time employment opportunity.
Responsible for managing and coordinating the overall aspects of track, station, grade crossing, and bridge construction. They will also be responsible for job profitability, project start-up, budget tracking, schedule development and adherence, correspondence with project team, quality of work, training of project coordinator and project assistant staff, applications for payment and project closeout. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
The day to day execution, project controls, project engineering, cost, risk and business management of a particular project and will work closely with all members of the Project Team. Must have solid knowledge of the project scope, building processes and systems, cost control, collections, billings, change management and monthly status reports with a strong understating of cost estimating, budgeting and forecasting. The Railroad Construction Project Manager is accountable for project completion and financials, critical success factors, and customer satisfaction results.
Minimum Requirements:
Qualified candidate must have the following:
- A minimum of 10 years railroad track construction experience including a minimum of one project within the last 5 years of value over $20 million.
- A minimum of 7 years of progressively more responsible experience engineering, constructing, and maintaining a wide variety of railroad projects for a Class 1 Freight or Commuter Railroad, especially for those with moderate to heavy traffic and limited work windows.
- Demonstrated knowledge of FRA safety standards, and associated Washington State compliance standards
- Proficient with Prolog or similar project management software.
- Must have scheduling experience with a solid understanding of Primavera P-3 and P-6 scheduling software capable of providing monthly schedule updates from the baseline schedule.
- Proven leadership qualities, leading the team from preconstruction design and construction phases.

Quality Control Manager - Local Candidates Only
The Quality Control Manager will be primarily responsible for creating, implementing and administering the company’s Quality Control / Assurance Program. Ensure compliance with applicable contract documents, government regulations or other company requirements. Responsible to hire additional staff when necessary and monitor and implement any required training for the QC staff.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor overall company QC plan and amend as needed. Review all interim owner evaluations and take corrective action if necessary
- Develop streamlined processes to ensure that all work is performed in accordance with company plan and specifications, as well as the standards and methods outlined in the project Quality Control Plans
- Oversee preparatory meetings, MEP coordination meetings and field inspections to insure compliance with contract and company policy
- Ensure that all daily documentation requirements are adhered to as required by the contract documents and company policy
- Attend weekly jobsite QC or coordination meetings to understand the project status and any issues that might require assistance to resolve
- Must have the knowledge and understanding of the QC/RMS software program
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must be a graduate engineer, architect or have a degree in construction management or equivalent years’ experience
- Alternate education as an engineering technician with at least 2 years of college and an ICC Certification as a Commercial Building Inspector, with a minimum of five years construction experience
- Construction Quality Management for Contractors certification preferred
- Department of Defense project experience preferred.
Quality Control Specialist - Local Candidates Only
The Quality Control Specialist supports the Quality Control Manager by ensuring that work performed at job sites is in compliance with contract documents and that the work meets the quality standards set forth in the plans and specifications.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for inspecting assigned construction sites to ensure that work performed is in compliance with the contract documents and that the standards of quality construction are met and preclude problems resulting from poor quality
- Follows established procedures to manage and control our own work force and our subcontractor and supplier activities to ensure that the completed work complies with the contract documents
- Document all items that do not comply with the contract document and quality standards.
- Work with the Quality Control Manager to coordinate company quality programs and inspections
- Insure that all required records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures
- Attend weekly jobsite QC or coordination meetings to understand the project status and any issues that might require assistance to resolve
- Conduct pre-installation and subcontractor meetings
- Create design and document clarifications for subcontractors
- Review drawings and documents
Minimum Qualifications:
- Position requires advanced technical training and direct experience, and may require a graduate degree in an engineering discipline or a degree in Construction Management
- Department of Defense project experience preferred
- Construction Quality Management for Contractors certification preferred
- Excellent attention to detail
- Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Good time management skills and organizational skills
