Absher Acquires Vanguard Contractors
Strategic addition strengthens federal contracting capabilities.
May 11, 2010 — Absher Construction Company, one of the Northwest's top construction firms, today announced the acquisition of Paducah, KY based Vanguard Contractors. Absher purchased the company from Harper Industries, one of Kentucky's most diverse construction organizations.
The purchase of Vanguard further increases Absher's long-held presence in the federal contracting market. "This acquisition bolsters our capabilities in the IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity) and MATOC (Multiple Award Task Order Contracts) arenas, as well as expands our relationships with several federal agencies." Absher President, Dan Absher commented. Founded in 1980, Vanguard holds multiple government contracts and has served clients such as the Army Corps of Engineers; NAVFAC (Naval Facilities Engineering Command); NASA; and the Department of Homeland Security in 26 states and territories.
Vanguard will continue to operate as Vanguard Contractors under its established management team, and Vanguard President Craig Guess will continue to lead the Paducah-based company. Clark Hall project wraps up
(April 30, 2009) — Absher has completed the Clark Hall Modernization project at the University of Washington's Seattle campus. This $12M GC/CM project completely gutted and rebuilt the 1890s-era building, which will continue to serve as the campus' ROTC headquarters. The project was completed on-time and on-budget and was staffed by senior project manager Jeff Tiegs, project manager Jeff Richards, superintendent Ray Michlig and project engineer Aaron Lum. Congrats to the Clark Hall team for another project well done....
Absher representatives attend annual SAME conference
(February 27, 2009) — Representatives from Absher Construction Company attended the Society of American Military Engineers' 2009 Pacific Northwest Regional Conference in Honolulu on Feb. 24-26. Absher awarded Hawaii barracks-complex project
(February 2, 2009) — After being temporarily sidelined, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Schofield Barracks project is now back in motion. Absher was initially awarded the project in the spring of 2008, but award of the project was delayed due to a competitor's protest. The issue has been resolved and the project will now proceed as originally awarded. Superintendent Don Blair will work with Senior Project Manager Jae Chu on the Schofield project, with other staffing yet to be named...
Award recipient selects charities
(February 2, 2009) — Absher's 2008 Community Service award-winner Brianna Davies has selected the charities to which Absher will donate $1,000 on her behalf. Brianna has selected FISH (Friends in Service to Him), a Pierce county-based food bank organization, as well as the March of Dimes who are widely known for their work to fight birth defects. $500 will go to each organization. Absher names first S-O-Y award recipients
(January 7, 2009) — Absher Construction Company has selected Ault Electric and D.L. Henricksen, both of Tacoma, as the recipients of the company's first-annual Subcontractor of the Year award. Both firms were praised by Absher directors and project-management staff for their head-and-shoulders performance above the rest of the crowd in their professionalism, quality of work and commitment to teamwork. Award plaques will be presented at luncheons being planned for both firms' offices.
EOY awards highlight annual company meeting
(December 9, 2008) — Absher's 2008 Company Meeting was held for the first time ever at Emerald Downs in Auburn. A splendid time was had by all, with the event including a review of 2008, a look ahead to 2009, a traditional holiday meal for all, games and prizes, and our annual employee awards. Earnng Employee of the Year awards this year were Erin Mayer (office/administrative), Jim King-Talik (supervisory) and Mike "Frenchy" Smith (craftworker). Rob Willis and Tim DeLong also took home Safety Person of the Year awards, and Brianna Davies was named the 2008 Community-Service Employee of the Year. Congratulations to all!
Nathan Hale Phase IB
(October 10, 2008) — Absher Construction Company has been awarded the Nathan Hale High School Phase 1B project, which will construct a new library building and renovate selected classrooms on the occupied campus in north Seattle. The $8.5M project is designed by Mahlum Architects of Seattle. The project will commence in November 2008 and should be complete in June of 2009...

Latest professional certifications
(September 10, 2008) — Absher Project Coordinator Brianna Davies and Senior Project Manager Jae Chu recently achieved new levels of professional certification. Brianna just passed the LEED accreditation test from the US Green Building Council, and joins the ranks of Absher's LEED-accredited staff. Elsewhere, Jae has completed the Design-Build Institute of America's Design-Build Professional certification...
GC/CM project list continues to grow
(August 15, 2008) — Absher Construction Company has been selected to provide GC/CM services to the Seattle Public Schools for the new Denny Middle School/Chief Sealth High School GC/CM project. The job will provide an all-new Denny Middle School on the Chief Sealth campus, and will modernize the Chief Sealth facility while creating a multi-purpose facilioty between the two structures. The $62.1 project was designed by Bassetti Architects of Seattle; construction is slated to begin in March 2009...
